Italy won its first upgrade from Fitch Ratings since 2021 as the credit assessor rewarded Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government for its deficit-cutting efforts.

In a statement on Friday, the company lifted its view on the euro zone’s third-biggest economy by one step to BBB+, three notches above junk. It added that the rating is now stable .
